The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) is the primary federal agency responsible for administration of the Endangered Species Act. The goals of the organization are to protect endangered and threatened species and pursue their recovery; and conserve candidate species so that they do not need to be listed under the Endangered Species Act.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries is responsible for the protection, conservation, and recovery of endangered and threatened marine and anadromous species under the Endangered Species Act. NOAA Fisheries is also known as the National Marine Fisheries Service
